Gazipur Medical College started its journey with 50 students

Gazipur Medical College started its journey with a promise of better education, modern and better service, on Wednesday with 50 students enrolled under its 2013-14 academic session.
It is in the forth position among the 23 government medical colleges in the country. MM Niaz Uddin, secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, formally inaugurated the academic activities at a ceremony at Banga Taj auditorium in the city, with Dr Subas Chandra Shaha, principal of the medical college, in the chair.
In the inaugural speech, Niaz said as Gazipur is an important place near the capital, over Tk 500 core was allocated for heath service for the people of the district. An alternate modern road will be built to link Dhaka-Mymensingh highway with Gazipur Medical College.
A modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) will be set up in the medical college in the current year, he added. In his speech, Director General of Health Directorate Dr Khadaker Sifayet Ullah said the medical college has been set up at the cost of Tk 596 crore.
Dr Subas Chandra Shaha, principal of the college, said Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry classes will be conducted by 20 teachers.
Academic activities will now start at the newly constructed hospital building.
