Prepaid mobile recharge cannot exceed Tk 500 per day

BTRC today fixed maximum recharge limit Tk 500 per day for prepaid mobile phone users. Users of prepaid mobile phone cannot recharge more than taka 500 per day on each sim under any mobile operator.

In a statement BTRC also mentioned that they have increased the volume of mobile transaction figure from the existing Tk 100 to Tk 300 for each maximum transaction.

The statement, signed by Mohammad Zulfikar, a director of Systems and Services Division at BTRC, also said that the postpaid mobile phone users will be able to recharge the billed amount.

However, this has been taken up on an experimental basis and if negative impacts are found from the market, the regulator will review the move.

Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh requested the telecom regulator to revisit the directive saying the benefits of users need to be reconsidered.

TIM Nurul Kabir, secretary general of AMTOB said, “Size of all existing bundle packages is more than Tk 500 and it will negatively affect the immediate effect.”

Kabir also said they want a consultation meeting regarding this issue and explain to the regulator how this will impact the digitization process.
